Performing at Sony Pictures Studios
As a magician in Los Angeles, I’m fortunate to see many places typically closed off to the public. Tonight I’m performing a corporate event on the Sony Pictures Studios backlot in Culver City, CA. There probably won’t be any celebrity sightings since I’m not going too far into the lot, but I’m planning on performing an hour of close-up magic followed by a full stage show for a group of about 150. Should be a blast!
UPDATE AFTER SHOW: I just got back from the program, and it’s events like these that make being a magician so worthwhile. The program was for a set of research companies who just went through a merger/acquisition, and people were there to have a great time. I wrote some custom humor before the show, which can be one of the most challenging things to do as an entertainer for corporate functions.
The room layout was unique, with tables arranged lengthwise rather than the standard rounds. This made for a very tight crowd, which helped the pace of the show. The closer the audience is as a whole to the performer, the better.
As I went through my 45 minute show, the pace kept increasing as the audience kept giving me more and more of their energy and generous applause. The end (which you need to see — I won’t spoil it) brought a standing ovation of all 150 people, and there isn’t any better feeling in the world.
Off to bed now, and time to let the adrenaline rush die down until tomorrow morning, when I’m off to go skydiving!
